How To Floss Your Teeth To Prevent Halitosis

Halitosis, or bad breath, is an embarrassing but very common problem. A huge percentage of adults suffer from halitosis, but many do not have to suffer the humiliation and potential health risks. Simple lifestyle changes can help to combat halitosis and make a huge difference in the sufferer's quality of life.

Halitosis Causes

Halitosis can be caused by a number of different factors. Certain foods, smoking, medical conditions or other lifestyle choices can all contribute to halitosis. In most cases, halitosis is caused by a buildup of bacteria in the mouth. When the bacteria is exposed to air, it results in the foul smell associated with halitosis.

When flossing, halitosis sufferers should take care to see that all spaces between teeth are flossed - both in the front and back of the mouth. Halitosis germs can hide anywhere along the gumline, so it's important to ensure that each and every angle is flossed. It's helpful to floss at least once a day, but even more if there is time, to ensure that all particles and bacteria are dislodged from the gum line and in between the teeth.

There are a number of different flossing products on the market today to help halitosis sufferers. In addition to traditional dental floss, there are now dental floss picks and other tools that can be used to achieve the desired oral hygiene results. These tools make it incredibly easy for halitosis sufferers to maintain a high level of oral hygiene.

Many halitosis sufferers find that simply flossing and then rinsing and brushing can solve many of their halitosis symptoms. If oral hygiene is improved and halitosis symptoms do not decrease, sufferers might want to consult a medical professional. Halitosis is most often caused by oral hygiene issues, but there can be other causes, including illness, infection or more serious issues that should be investigated.

Halitosis affects so many people every year, yet is easily treatable and preventable. Using floss daily or even twice a day can ensure that halitosis-causing bacteria are removed from the mouth, and many of the symptoms of halitosis are lessened.
